Variety
Ramiro
The elongated pointed sweet pepper — sweet, reliable, and perfect for stuffing

Ramiro is a Spanish-style elongated sweet pepper that has become increasingly available in UK supermarkets — which is excellent reason to grow your own. The home-grown version, ripened fully on the plant, has dramatically more flavour than any shop-bought equivalent. The pointed shape and thin but substantial walls make it ideal for stuffing and roasting whole.
Flavour
Very sweet with a clean, uncomplicated pepper flavour and a thin, almost papery skin that chars quickly. Sweeter than block bell peppers and with a fresher, lighter quality. Excellent raw as a crudité or in salads — the flavour is accessible and appealing.
In the kitchen
Excellent stuffed with a herbed ricotta and baked or grilled. Roast whole until charred and collapsed; peel and serve as antipasto. Also good raw in salads. The thin skin means they can be grilled very quickly over direct high heat — 4–5 minutes total is enough to transform them.
Growing
F1 hybrid. Grow under glass. Very productive variety producing high yields of consistently sized fruit. More compact than Sweet Palermo. Harvest from green or allow to ripen to deep red. One of the more reliable varieties for consistent UK greenhouse production.
