Purple-topped with yellow flesh. Fine-grained and sweet. Stores well through winter.
Flavour
Sweet and fine-grained with a subtle earthy undertone, making it less bitter than other swedes. The yellow flesh adds a creamy texture when cooked.
In the kitchen
Ideal for slow roasting or smoking whole on the BBQ to bring out its natural sweetness. Also excellent mashed or in stews, where it holds shape and adds depth of flavour.
Growing
Prefers well-drained, fertile soil and benefits from consistent moisture. Sow in late spring for an autumn to winter harvest; stores exceptionally well in cool, dark conditions.
